Olivia and her Mum Dawn were sitting watching the telly together one night and saw TimeOut Charity on Seven Sharp. At the time they commented to one another what a lovely gesture these home donors were making, never expecting at the time to ever have a need for TimeOut themselves.

Unfortunately, Dawn’s sore back that took her to the Doctor ended up being terminal lung cancer that had spread to her liver, spine, lymph nodes and brain. A healthy living non-smoker all her life and already a bowel cancer survivor from 14 years prior, it was a terrible blow for the whole family.

The gorgeous Oakura Bay lies on the Northern East Coast with a beach almost a kilometre in length of golden sand and adjacent to the deep water entrance of the Whangaruru harbour with red skies framing the view morning and evening is where Doug Hanna and his family have their holiday home.

When the Greco family walked through the doors they were the 50th family that had been donated this happy home.

“We had a beautiful week away in lovely weather, a dream location” recalls Olivia.

“As Mum passed away before our trip, Dad, myself, a 2 year old family member and a cousin who is a Police Officer in the area came to enjoy the beauty that is Oakura Bay. It gave us all time together to remember and enjoy and start to feel some peace after all that had gone on”.

“We would not have had this week in paradise had it not been for the generosity of Doug and his family, and my whole family – including Mum thank him from the bottom of our hearts. She was so looking forward to the trip and we know she was there in spirit”

Our best wishes to the Greco family.
