Hospice Heroes
We’re honoured to have TimeOut featured in an episode of Hospice Heroes, sharing the story of TimeOut recipient Katimeli and the difference a holiday break can make for families living with stage 4 cancer or an incurable illness.
The episode follows Katimeli as she receives compassionate support from the incredible team at Tōtara Hospice. With the help of Genevieve, Tōtara Hospice’s Pacific Cultural Liaison, Katimeli and her whānau were able to enjoy a much-needed TimeOut stay together.
One of the most touching moments in the episode is seeing Katimeli arrive at her holiday home for the first time. Her joy, gratitude and excitement capture exactly what TimeOut is all about—giving families the opportunity to step away from the challenges of illness, reconnect with one another, and create precious memories together.
We’re incredibly grateful to Katimeli and her whānau for allowing their story to be shared, and to the wonderful team at Tōtara Hospice for the care and support they provide every day. Their collaboration made this special break possible and highlights the power of working together to support families when they need it most.
We’re also grateful to the Hospice Heroes team for shining a light on the impact a TimeOut stay can have. We hope Katimeli’s story inspires more holiday homeowners to donate a few nights in their holiday home, helping create many more precious moments for families across Aotearoa.
Watch Katimeli’s inspiring story in the Hospice Heroes episode and see the difference a TimeOut stay can make.
